The Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library is one of the biggest anchors of summer food support in the region. Starting May 29, library branches across the city will serve free meals and snacks to kids on weekday afternoons — no income verification required, no sign-up necessary. Just show up.
Some locations — like Price Hill — go above and beyond, offering both weekday and Saturday meals and snacks. A few branches start even earlier: Deer Park kicks off May 21, Elmwood Place and Groesbeck begin May 22, and Mt. Healthy launches May 28.

Rec at Nite gives teens somewhere to be on Saturday nights — live DJs, open swim, e-sports, food trucks, and zero cost to families.Cincinnati Recreation Commission
Starting June 6, the Cincinnati Recreation Commission's Rec at Nite program brings Saturday evening programming to four CRC facilities: Evanston, Winton Hills, Lincoln, and Hirsch. The events are free and open to teens ages 12 through 17.
Each Rec at Nite event features live DJs, open swim, e-sports gaming, open gym, food trucks, and themed nights — rotating throughout the summer to keep things fresh. It's designed not just to entertain, but to give teens a safe, structured option on weekend evenings.
Is Your Family Summer-Ready?
Four quick questions to see how connected you are to Cincinnati's free resources.
Do you know where your nearest free summer meal site is?
- Yes, I know exactly where to go — Great! Check the table above to confirm hours — some sites serve meals AND snacks at different times.
- Not yet, but I want to find out — Use the neighborhood finder at the top of this page, or search the USDA meal site dashboard for locations across all of Hamilton County.
- We don't need free meals this summer — That's great. If that changes, the library branches listed above are open to any child — no questions asked.
Have you heard about Rec at Nite for teens?
- Yes — my teen is already interested — Mark your calendar: Saturdays starting June 6, at Evanston, Winton Hills, Lincoln, and Hirsch CRC locations.
- Just learned about it from this article — Spread the word! Rec at Nite runs every Saturday evening this summer — DJs, swimming, e-sports, and food trucks, all free.
- Not relevant — no teens in my home — Good to know for other families in your network. CRC also runs day camps and pools open to all ages starting June 6.
Do you know where your nearest cooling center or spray ground is?
- Yes, I have a plan for hot days — Excellent preparation. CRC pools open June 6 — they're another great option on the hottest days.
- Not sure — I'd need to look it up — Cincinnati Recreation Commission maintains cooling centers and spray grounds throughout the city. Call CRC or check their website to find the nearest one before the heat hits.
- We have A/C and don't need one — Lucky! But knowing your nearest spray ground is still a fun summer activity option for kids.
Are you aware that CPS's Safe Sleep Lot stays open all summer for families facing homelessness?
- Yes, I knew about this resource — Thank you for being informed. If you know families in need, please share this resource — it provides a secure, safe place to rest overnight.
- No, I didn't know — good to know — Cincinnati Public Schools' Safe Sleep Lot remains operational all summer. It's one of the most vital but least publicized resources available to families in crisis.
- I need this resource right now — Contact Cincinnati Public Schools directly to access the Safe Sleep Lot. See the resources section below for contact information and support.
